Across That Time, Once Before ©

And so one day
across the glen
the light slanted so,
I saw you then
with eyes upturned
the eagle soared
across the air where
clouded towers
of cirrus, cumulus,
names unknown
hid shadows past
you were gone.
I stood alone in violet dawn
where clouded dancers
preyed upon the memories
of mere mortal man,
still the wings of the eagle
are lifted high
when at night I close my eyes
and tears draw nigh
when I think of you
in that bonnie glen
where the eagle soared
across that time, once before.
