Alone ©

by Deborah Lloyd
Fife, Scotland
2000

You came into my life
And with you came light;
A light so strong and warm.

Now you are gone,
And day has become night.
Darkness pervades,
And I am alone.

Oh, for a candle
To drive back the night
And help me see again,
The world in all its glory.

But alone I remain,
And blackness surrounds
As I come to realise,
You shall not return.
