Aphrodite and Me ©

David Brady
Stenhousemuir, Scotland
2002

Again, through fiery eternal seedling
That has shot up to bloom, my core
Is displayed without heartless power; instead
There is you, without blame: to greet
All harsh honesty that has shone in some
Despite violent recurrence that has sought
An audience to trial and judge, and
To be aware of such characters seeking
The dismissing act of unthought-of attack, who
Has and will be beautiful with comfort
Gentle as her breast, with a
Soldier and intelligence.
