A Scottish Taste ©

Frank Joussen
Hueckelhoven, Germany
2003

Scotland´s a bit like its whisky -
tasting it for the first time
makes you sit down
and wonder, a little bewildered:
am I really going to like this?

This is a strong blast
bringing tears to my eyes,
reddening my cheeks
like a fast jig I don´t
know how to dance.

This warms me a little
like an unreliable sun
whose weird sisters
are cold, cold showers
early the next morning.

But you won´t make
one mistake about it.
You´ll gladly make a couple.
Once you´ve got it
in your blood

it goes straight
to your heart
and you won´t forget
to return for another taste of this.
