A candle in a red jar
Is shining out tonight
The other side of the window
Is crisp and cold
Winter sun has a weak pulse
Sometimes appears dying
Then before dark
A blink of apricot visits
The flame is steady in the dark
A small beacon of light
For passing friends
On this Christmas night
Snow may come later
When sleep claims my time
My garden holds her breath
Awaiting adornment again
How may other people
Have blinds open to the night
To show the way to carolers
Candle burning bright
