Earthly Thoughts (Part One: Prelude) ©

Nat Hall
Sandwick, Shetland
2005

1. MONEY
Cash, dosh,
golden guineas or green dollars -

is it ALL we really think of?

Rock-hard nuggets
make planet turn; man created
pie and bar charts!

Thank God, oxygen is still free!

2. SEX
Hard - on,
horizontal or just upright;
don't touch that switch, why do we hide?

Adam and Eve in a beehive,
make our heads swing to near meltdown...
Heavens above,
we've rocketed to 7th floor,
might need a lift to go downtown.

3. DEATH
Ash, box,
below 6 feet or in the sky -

is that really WHAT we fear most?

In this cosmic cycle of life,
we're like children before ogres;
forgot to pay my insurance (!)

Heaven's sliding on a tight rope
makes me feel cold...

Thank God,
poets leave at first light.
