First Visit to Scotland ©

Nancy Purves
Calgary, Canada
2003

Billowing clouds, silver, pink, and gray
Something I saw in Scotland today.
Supper over- a quick duck out for a look
and over my head something I'd read in a book.

Surprising and lovely, I stood there and sighed
Food for my soul. My heart opened wide.
Clouds I have studied, back pressed to the ground,
imagining stories in shapes that I found.
Yet never surprised was I more, I do think,
than seeing that sky full of clouds grey and pink.
