Five W's and an H ©

by H Marshall
Scotland

What is my role
In this harsh world?
Will my proud flag
Be high, unfurled?

Where will it end,
This journey long?
Tramping the path,
'Tween right and wrong?

When will my time
On earth be done?
So many tests;
Some lost, some won.

Why should I strive
With might and mane,
To build a dream
Through loss and pain?

Who can fault me
If I have tried
To be the best,
Before I died?

How will you know
I passed this way?
Will my good name
In memory stay?
