In Bethlehem Tonight ©

Margaret Leith Minter
Victoria, B.C., Canada
2004

We can see the Christmas star
gleaming brightly from afar;
showing where a baby lies
watched by Mary's loving eyes,
in Bethlehem tonight.

We can hear the angels sing
"He is Christ! He is the King!
Goodwill to men and peace on earth."
telling of the infant's birth,
in Bethlehem tonight.

We can feel the warmth and joy
gathered round that baby boy;
where humble shepherds kneel in prayer,
before that manger, cold and bare,
in Bethlehem tonight.

We will sing our songs of glory,
and celebrate the Christmas story;
while joy and hope and peace and love
are sent to us from heaven above
in Bethlehem tonight.
