In Fields They Lay ©

Frank E Gibbard
London, England
2006

The wind disturbs the poppy petals in the fields
But cannot the long interred people still out there,
So cruelly sacrificed on a cross of others’ making.
Here raised they memorials to mark all the losses
Battalions and regiments of white wooden crosses.
