June poppies…. a dash of crimson
Like a ribbon along the roadside
Pepper pot seeds scattered
By the four winds
Surprise us in their glory
Clever careful closing at dusk
Petals fold and play peep boo
Rise early enough to see
Their nodding heads awaken
Look closer and see their faces
No wonder November's gloom
Borrows the poppy
Worn near our hearts
A symbol from Flanders field
So we can pledge remembrance
