I saw the look in your eyes
As I left you sitting at the foot of the stairs.
I had sucked the love from your heart
And destroyed you with the words,
"I don't love you anymore".
Had I forgotten the young man
Who had asked me to date him?
Had I forgotten the way you danced
On and off the pavement,
Ignoring the heavy January snowfall
That coated your brown corduroy jacket.
I had watched your happiness
From the bus, and I too felt happy.
Never in my wildest dreams
Did I think it would end.
You did nothing wrong.
Everything you did was perfect,
Maybe too perfect and I ran away.
Where are you today?
For today I am an old woman
With your face in my dreams.
