Personal History ©

Stella
Fife, Scotland
2005

In a home when days are made special
We create a new history
Woven round the things that matter
Things like birthdays and even
The expected date given by the midwife

Festivals are welcomed given importance
Advent enjoyed Lent suffered
Good Friday ached Easter Sunday gloried

Family being my focus I see and hold dear
The celebration of us
Therefore like tides that fluctuate
At times grief is washed in like driftwood
Which splinters and wounds

Days being gifted can be taken
At times too soon
That rite of passage allows tears
Privately borne carried in that space
My solar plexus kicked in the middle
And in the core of my heart
