Pointing to the Grave ©

The terrifying Asian Tsunami !

Hamish M Anstruther
Scotland
2005

excited serried ranks gazed in awe,
eyes agog with wonder,
gesticulating arms waved seaward
to mark the gaping abyss,
but no hand could forestall the force
nor the mighty surge,
for each opposable pollex
on those doomed hands
only served to pinpoint
its own burial pool,
and the now terrified ranks
were claimed by the ocean
to be cast helplessly
like floundering flotsam
on the receding crest
of an unmarked grave.....

*************************

then a tidal wave of tears
flooded the land
