Remember Me ©

David Wilkie
Aberdeen, Scotland
2005

Remember me when I was a child
my character which was meek and mild
please remember me

Remember me as I grew up
always sought human kindness
which to sup
remember me

Remember me when called to war
I still bear the scars, hear the roar
remember me

Remember me when a letter you read
sadly announced "missing, presumed dead"
please remember me

Remember me each November day
as the wind does blow memories each way
please remember me

Remember me when the book is closed forever
thoughts of a man, aye whatever you do
I implore you, remember me

Remember me when war is finally done
and all who are lost see the coming of the Son
on Judgement Day we who laid down our lives
will be forever remembered
