Scots In Exile ©

Ian McCrae
Sydney, Australia
2006

When the sun rises over Scotland
And the shadows disappear from the glens,
The aspirations of the whole nation
Are found in the heart of its men.

They all stand together in battle
And out on the raging sea,
Inventors and creators,
Fishermen, they will always be.

As the sun sets on their glory
With modesty and pride,
They link hands with every nation
As brothers side by side:

In the darkness of the winter
When itís cold and gray,
A light still burns for exiles
No matter where they pray.

As daybreaks over Scotland
The summer sun is bright,
The protector of our nation
Will do all things right.

Exiled Scots the world over
Have watched the whole world change,
Our dear old Scotland
Your beauty still remains:
