A Sign in Baghdad ©

John McCormick
Bass Lake, Ontario, Canada
2003

"Thou shalt not kill"
Leaves no excuse,
In Christianity.
For wars of any kind.

The "justness" seen
On either side,
Is planted in the mind
By greed alone.

To kill a foe,
To save them from death,
Makes no sense to me at all.
Be it on a battlefield,
Or against a pitted wall.

Is this the end
Where once Eden lay,
And in this land of Cush,
We'll see a lasting Peace on Earth,
Or another burning, Bush?
