Solitude ©

Irene McIsaac
Whitby, Ontario, Canada
2003

At first,
The emptiness is painful
The silence deafening,
The loneliness so hard to bear --
A heart broken

Then,
He comes quietly in the night
To comfort and reassure her
He is still there
Loving her, keeping her warm

In time,
She finds herself again,
Knows she can be strong,
Be there for those who need her --
A heart mending
