Stand Not Against My Calling ©

To our brave service men and women who deserve our unstinting support as they cope with war and its after-effects. We must never forget them amidst the politics, the pragmatism, the pontification and the protests.

Now I must to war!
Around me storms are gath'ring.
Clouds that seem so far;
Stand not against my calling!

This for my country,
And Freedom's cause protecting!
I give my loyalty,
Stand not against my calling!

Must I go fearless,
To face this scourge appalling?
'Though I feel helpless!
Stand not against my calling!

Hear the bugle sound!
See the soldiers mustering.
Soon the shells will pound;
Stand not against their calling!

Ready to engage
Guns and missiles mauling.
Proud men of courage,
Stand not against their calling!

Over the top, lads,
Steadfast, bold and unfailling!
Just like our own dads,
Stand not against their calling!

Who will die this morn?
Life and Liberty giving;
From their loved-ones torn,
Stand not against their calling!

Heat is now white hot,
The guns no time for cooling.
So many brave men shot,
Stand not against their calling!

Fear of "blue on blue"
Haunts our every dawning!
Pray that it's not you!
Stand not against our calling!

What of those at home,
Who see naught of this killing?
Leave me not alone!
Stand not against my calling!

Staunch blood soaks the land,
Brave men around me falling
At the enemy's hand,
Stand not against their calling!

Many brutalised,
Destructive war still raging!
Many traumatised,
Stand not against their calling!

Tell the guns to cease!
The armies are withdrawing.
Now I pray for peace,
Stand not against my calling!

Time to bury the dead,
For our friends we are mourning.
Crosses mark their head,
Stand not against their calling!

In the aftermath,
Love and friendship suffering.
Walk a fragile path,
Stand not against my calling!
