TEARS FOR THE CHILDREN ©

Jim McRobert
Edinburgh, Scotland
2005

the Maelstrom trashed a thousand times
this battlefield of breakers
one belch from deep the Ocean floor
each massive wave a grater

all is left a face on board
a grinning photograph
with message sterile line by line
and no one there to laugh

to see the eye of orphan child
tears that tears another
loss what loss can't explain
of sister, father, mother

I feel a wave of calmness come
despite the pain to see
and feel the greatest surge of hope
from those who stand by me
