Tender Prey ©

Gerard McCabe
Emden, Germany
2006

Gaze in awe
evil blinding
big city lights.
drug traffic
well after midnight.
greedy h p stores
never close,
egoistic people.
be hip be cool
pose.

hookers line
the catwalk
of broken dreams.
limousines
stop to talk.
needles wilt
in the park.
muggers pick out
diamonds in the dark.
imprison yourself.

just turned
sweet sixteen,
a rucksack a dream.
pot full of honey.
chains on legs,
big fat crowds
of money.

didnít you read
the warning sign.
hey
no fault of mine.
parents pass the buck.
only sixteen today
beware tender prey.
