Perhaps I should apologise
Before I start to eulogise
And hope that Burns would understan'
Because he was a greater man
Than ever I could be

And yet I feel compelled to say
With simple words in my own way
How much his words have meant to me
Throughout my life in ev'ry way
He's helped my eyes to see

Tho' he trod a fruitless furrow
His fertile words I often borrow
To match a mood or point express
In thoughts of love or under stress
His writings never fail

Ev'ry Burns Night celebration
He lifts anew the Scottish Nation
With poignant Poem and rousing Song
Which makes me proud I too belong
To his birth place, Scotland
