‘The Dead Poets Society’ as we watched the film

Jim McRobert
Edinburgh, Scotland
2005

I shared my tears with you my Love
as we watched the growth of Youth
and as it dripped ran and tumbled
I knew we’d seen the truth

Thro’ all their days of growing
in purpose new for each
there stood a giant above all men
this man in truth could teach

He showed the way of mortal mind
a route to see the light
A path to carve each place in life
the way to use their sight
he killed the three wise monkeys,
he was dumb enough to care
to each he showed the options
the burden each could bear

released in them the magic
with each stride in life to take
Then set them out to a big new world
with a chance to mould or break
