The World's Crying ©

(On hearing the news that diplomacy between the UN and Iraq had failed.)

Nat Hall
Sandwick, Shetland
2003

The world's crying,
Some disobey...
The world's bleeding
And fell to prey.

The world's crying
In disarray -
The world's shouting
At such dismay.

The world's praying
For a new day -
Hands are binding
Like a may-day...

Our hearts' weeping -
Wisdom astray...
The world's watching
Sinking away.

...How can they rape humanity,
Let go the bombs, and lose their way?
