We Will Miss You Jimmy ©

A Tribute to Sir Jimmy Shand, MA, MBE

H Shallken
Scotland
2003

Death robbed our Nation
of a son so special and rare,
we all whispered a solemn prayer....
pianissimo,
and every 'box' struck a minor chord....
lamentoso.

'Picking the bluebells
in the merry month of May',
once in the style as you would play....
giocoso,
now seems to us so much more....
doloroso.

All Scottish country dancers
as they circled round,
were guided by your inimitable sound....
tempo giusto,
and for a moment in time their steps became....
meno mosso.

We will all miss your music, Jimmy,
your jigs, your marches, and your reels;
for now a Shand waltz somehow feels....
dolente,
and in your honour we will play them....
soave.

Those 'Happy Hours' you often played
which gave us so much pleasure;
in our memory we will treasure....
con tenerezza,
as doyen of Scottish music you played....
con anima.

You've left us now, but shall not be unsung,
We'll remember your matchless name.
Future musicians will learn of your fame,
And your greatness will stay on their tongue.
