When I Grow Up ©

Michelle Norvell
Texas, USA
2000

when I grow up I want to be a writer no!
a singer
I don't know
maybe to people I'm a complete stranger.

when I grow up I want to be married and have three kids no!
ten
I don't know
it's up to my man.

when I grow up I want people to judge me
for what they read in my books!
you know,
it's not all about the looks.

when I grow up I don't want to remember
the life I have now
I can't even get over a man
I once found.

when I grow up I want people to just act their age
and don't give up
be happy
you walked that stage.
