Across Linton Lea ©

Jim Hogg
Renfrew, Scotland
2007

Beneath the old bridge where the old highway ends
I sat with my feet in the cold cold river
Where time wears away but never mends
It hasn't been long but seems like forever

We lay here and listened to birdsong so pure
Beside Poacher's Pool in the Valley of Light
In stolen moments when we were secure
In each others arms hidden from sight

Chorus:
The breezes blow gently that carry you here
Soft under starlight across Linton Lea
The river and I know you'll always be near
Here where our loving once set us free

Salmon and sea trout lazed in the shadows
Waiting to make a break for the heights
Across Linton Lea the world lay before us
But we were too tied then to share its sights

The rosiest cheeks that ever I kissed
The softest brown eyes I've ever missed
Used to be mine by this river-side
Under this bridge in the Valley of Light

Chorus:
The breezes blow gently that carry you here
Soft under starlight across Linton Lea
The river and I know you'll always be near
Here where our loving once set us free
Here where I dream across Linton Lea
