A Little Space For Us ©

I got my blitz from comic books but to me it seemed real enough
We weave our dreams from gold and stars and go spinning into dust
We stagger backwards through this life with our eyes held tightly shut
Into a night of lies and fear, from the tenderness of love
Into the future, out of the light, it's all the same it seems
Ups and downs and highs and lows, the fuel of all our dreams
If all we have to chase or choose are figments of the mind
While the minefields we've been sent into should teach us to be kind
On paths thru' other lives, behind the walls we built to climb
We're guided by the blueprints in the mercury of time
That silver river flowing thru' these fingers just the once
To take the little left between the forsaken and romance
And so I'm forced to ask at last "What was it that was real?"
Was it something made by hand, of concrete or of steel
Or storms and veils inside this mind and all those shades of you
Rusting hints of days to come, of you and your way thru'
So take two steps on the stairs to feel the dying of our years
Turn once around yourself to find the source of all your fears
Your eyes on captured stars, guess the limits of the night
And in moments when you feel too free consider nature's might
But there's a little space for us, between the paths, behind the walls
Between the figments and the stars, beneath the light that falls
With shade enough for eyes to spark, room to choose what's right or wrong,
Time enough for love to bloom and fuel enough for dance and song
