Blindside ©

Jim Hogg
Stranraer, Scotland
2003

We live our lives from day to day
We take the children out to play
I listen to the words you say
I want to fly but here I stay

The white clouds slip across the sky
The autumn leaves whisper goodbye
I worship truth but still I lie
I want you and I want to fly

Chorus:
If you could see this hidden side of me
Or be just what you want to be
Somewhere else and running free
You'd want it too just like me

Against the river, against the tide
I never thought I'd let it slide
This truth's too painful to confide
But I can't stay here by your side

Where the time goes I do not know
It flashes past yet moves so slow
I stand and watch the river flow
And wonder what I need to know

Chorus:

But still I hide that leaving side of me
And smile away this urge to flee
If I could say what I want to be
I might escape this secret side of me

The years slip by and life moves on
The urge to leave still isn't gone
I wonder what we might have done
If I had flown or you had run

Chorus:

If I had seen the hidden side of you
Or imagined that you had yours too
Would this love have been more true
In the end 'twas only time that flew

In the end 'twas only time that flew

Or so I thought till yesterday
When you turned and walked away
And through this bitter smile I pray
Don't say goodbye my love, please stay
