Song for Don ©

Jim Hogg
Stranraer, Scotland
2006

I think I see him yet
Defiant as the wind
Running through the sunset
Down by the river bend

No friend was ever more
He couldn't cheat or steal
His simple dream was only
To hunt through wood or field

Chorus:
Golden in the morning
Splashing sunlit streams
A life so free and soaring
And golden in my dreams

To think of his wild thrill
Is more than I can stand
I see him clearly still
Chasing seagulls on the sand

My leaving came too soon
With autumn in the wind
But I'll see you by the moon
Down by the river bend

Chorus:
Golden in the morning
Splashing sunlit streams
A life so free and soaring
And golden in my dreams
